We were on our way to a huge family gathering in Karlstad. I had just finished writing the Ericson family history and we intended to visit all the old farm houses which had once been owned by the various members of May’s family.
We took the ferry from Newcastle to Kristansand, a route which no longer exists, and arranged to stay for a day with Kirsti in Oslo.
Among other things we strolled along the harbour, visited the Kvadratura area with its seventeenth century buildings, held on tightly to the railings at the top of the Holmenkollen ski jump, and were suitably impressed by the panoramic views of the Oslofjord.
